Social Networking in the Work Place

social networking in the workplaceI have recently began working on a new project that takes a different spin on Social Media tools and Social Networking.  This project focuses on using Social Media tools in the work place to create a more connected organization, encouraging employees to embrace these tools and begin to share content and have conversations that may have normally occurred via email.

This area of Social Networking has not received as much attention or publicity as the side that focuses on marketing and connecting with customers and building your brand.  It is however something with great value and something I feel that every large organization should look at.

If you are able to move your employees to using Social Media tools such as internal blogs, yammer or other internal like Twitter clients as well as online document sharing tools and encourage your employees to watch for updates via an RSS Reader tool there are several benefits that can be achieved.  These benefits could be:

  • Reduction in Email Traffic
  • Improved Collaboration
  • Faster Decision Making
  • And much more

As this project progresses I will document the experience and also would love to hear input from others on your thoughts and experiences with Social Media tools in organizations for internal communication and collaboration.
